L'edició d'aquest 2021 dels premis MTV Video Music Awards , ha complert 40 anys . Justin Bieber ha estat nomenat com a "Millor Artista de l'Any" . "Drivers License" d' Olivia Rodrigo ha estat la guanyadora del guardó a "Millor Cançó" , el "Millor Vídeo" ha estat per "Montero" de Lil Nas X , i BTS s'han proclamat guanyadors com a "Millor Grup de l'Any" . Per la seva part, Justin Bieber ho va petar al costat de The Kid Laroi interpretant un tros d' "Stay", un dels èxits estrella de Flaixbac, i "Ghost" que va ser absolutament espectacular. El canadenc va tornar a pujar un parell de cops més a l'escenari per a recollir els premis a "Millor Artista" i "Millor cançó pop" . També Olivia Rodrigo es va endur un parell de guardons a casa només donar el tret de sortida a la gala: "Millor Actuació Push" i "Millor Cançó de l'Any" amb "Drivers License" , una de les propostes fixes de la programació de Flaixbac aquest darrer any. La cantant nord-americana va cantar en directe al Barclays Center , "Good For You" . Lil Nas X també va ser un dels noms propis de la nit. L'artista va protagonitzar una de les actuacions més polèmiques de la nit, interpretant "Industry Baby" i despullant-se a mesura que avançava la cançó.
